President Mohamed Nasheed, concerned over government revenue and with a strained budget, expressed to attract more tourists to the country, by opening a midmarket in the industry. He said the idea to introduce the type of tourism is aimed at selling the product in an affordable rate to travelers who wish to spend their holidays in this paradise land.
President spoke on the subject in his weekly radio address which took a halt twice during his visits for fame and glory out of the country.
President said that government needs to plan a policy for tourism industry as we upgrade and develop the industry some of the resorts are so expensive that middle class find impossible to afford. He said he wanted to sell the market to an affordable rate that everyone can enjoy the Robinson Crusoe adventure here in the vast spread island nation of beauty in the equator.
President said several economists have suggested introducing such a market to the country and government is planning to implement a steady policy that will attract more tourists to Maldives.
